Master's Thesis is based on Master's Thesis Seminar (PROJECTS 2022/23). Thesis is striving for informed design utilizing computational design in Grasshopper 3D. It also researches the use of artificial intelligence in architecture.
World Wildlife Fund (WWF) is asking for a design of Extinction Museum in Italian crater near Naples. The project is an urgent response to disturbing information about life on our planet, where 69% of wild animal species have been lost in the last 50 years. The diploma thesis analyses given area Cratere Degli Astroni to situate the location of the museum. The proposal investigates concept of extinction and connection with a symbol of dying out of the dinosaurs – the crater.
The museum is not a utilitarian building. It is a specific typology that does not aim to be optimized in all possible aspects. Museum architecture belongs to the artistic field of the craft. It is often high-end architecture, individually designed with regard to the importance of the program it carries or the concept it represents and communicates.
The Extinction Museum is no exception. It has a particularly strong message to put into its form and structure. The sixth mass extinction is happening and we humans are causing it. It is also we the people who can change the outcome of what could otherwise be an irreversible disaster. Therefore, the design concept of the museum is developed around the representation of the concept of extinction.
