Wave City

Consider following: We can use low frequency audio waves or vibrations to induce shape on the surface of water through intricate intereference patterns.

We also have electrorheological fluids capable of temporarily and reversibly render liquids as thick as a solid object would be.

Therefore we can „freeze“ it in a certain shape using electromagnetic field. Which could lead to a massive scale new way of 3D printing using a principle of lost scaffolding. All done on the surface of water by a huge floating device. A further study of the cymatics phenomena is needed to reach reasonable accuracy of the form.

However with upcoming rise of the new architecture of computing using memsistors and also quantum computing we could be able to reverse engeneer such as natural laws and behaviours.

Timeline
2012
First succesful attempt to shape water using only synchronized vibrations. Electrorheological liquids used widely, mainly in automobiles and machines. Uprise of 3D print takes place all over the western countries. Acousto-optic interferometry is used for dynamic 3D imaging. Moore’s law applies and technology accelerates.
2030
First large scale 3D-water-printed object is constructed. Most of all energy must be gained from renewable sources. The global electrical grid needs drastic reconstruction. The agricultural crisis arises and new means of feeding growing population are needed. Genetic manipulation research celebrates eatible and luminous plants. New discoveries are made in pruning trees using DNA merging. Microalgae bio-fuel plants becoming common due to its improved efficiency using bacteria. New memsistor-based architecture of hardware and software revolutionizes computing and enables almost real-time processing of big data.
2100
People start to colonize the Oceans. Since the prevailing form of energy is electricity thaks to its flexibility the old infrastructures becomes obsolete. Every building is a node in a web of energy and can gain or produce it based on its individual needs. The same rule applies to personal devices and transportation. Thanks to energy being spread to all the devices any form of fluctuating energy source can now contribute to the whole. Including sea waves.
2150
People start to adapt to the new environment more properly. Mechanical gills are becoming common amongst Wavecity’s inhabitants. New pseudo-human organs are developed through DNA merging. Biological gills are as common as breast implants in 2015. The whole city is run by artificial intellingence which evolved from the software which controlled energy distribution. It optimises energy consumption, cycles of O2 and CO2, wastewater for algae plants and more...
2300
The adaptation is complete. People are now fully capable of living in water. Majority of physical structures can be replaced by intricate manipulations of water using sound waves and electromagnetic fields. The city now consist only of calm areas with no current and no waves and “walls” made of vibrating water. Streets are substituted by flowing currents which serve as short distance public transportation. There are more devices based on and powered by currents and vibratins.
