CLIMBot is a fully autonomous robotic building assembly system designed for dense future cities. Robotics are penetrating to almost every possible industry nowadays and it seems that the building industry is getting a little left out. This project examines the possibilities of robotic assemblers being used on buildings during their whole lifetime. Robots assemble the building at the beginning based on site specification and investors needs. After the core structural shell is assembled, robots continue with the assembly of secondary elements that will serve as floors, walls, windows, railings, shading devices etc. In the next stage of the research, it would probably be good to examine the possibilities of a smaller scale robotic system that could assemble detailed building elements such as elevators, stairs, plumbing or even furniture. After the building is built, robots dock to solar powered docking stations and rest.
There are 3 main possibilities for building reassembly.
First is on daily/weakly basis, when robots can be used to extend or contract single floor volumes or create a terrace or a balcony on short term basis. The habitant could simply rent elements and have his living room extended for a Friday party or extra terrace during nice warm weekend.
Second possibility is on long term basis. Modern dense cities have dynamic needs and where once a residential building is desired, after one decade it may change and commercial building might become a better option for the site. CLIMbot building can easily reassemble and adjust to any contemporary needs.
Third possibility is maintenance where every part of the building can be easily robotically replaced so the buiding can stay in a good shape for a very long time.
